THE MONTESSORI METHOD

What is the Montessori Method, and why use it?

Our school adheres to Maria Montessori's child development theories, as well as the her pedagogy which is based on those theories.  We also recognize that Mrs. Montessori was a person of her place and time, and that there has been much research done in the area of Early Childhood Education in recent decades.  As such, we dutifully follow Maria Montessori's practices, use her materials, but are always open to incorporating new information, theories and practices in our work with young children.

Maria Montessori

Maria Montessori's early childhood pedagogy is based around the idea that children are more happy, and more successful, when we help them to be more independent.  Through interactions with manipulative materials, gentle guidance from the child's teachers, and exploration of social expectations, children can learn to be independent, engaged and active learners!
